Strollin' Colon
The New Mexico Colorectal Cancer Program is pleased to announce that the "Strollin' Colon" has arrived! The inflatable Strollin' Colon is a walk-through educational exhibit designed to teach communities about colorectal cancer screening. To find out more, please contact our program staff.

Program Initiatives:
- Worksite Wellness – The Colorectal Cancer Program has worked with The Solutions Group to develop and implement a toolkit specifically for workplaces to increase awareness about colorectal cancer screening.

Cancer Education in Native American Communities – The Program is also working with the UNM Cancer Center’s Native American Cancer Education program to offer educational sessions about colorectal cancer. Sessions are held in tribal communities throughout New Mexico.

Health Insurance Companies – Through partnerships with major health insurance plans, the Program is reaching out to New Mexico’s insured population about the importance of getting screened for colorectal cancer.

Patient Navigation in Rural Communities – Through a contract with the New Mexico Primary Care Association, the Program is facilitating patient navigation training for rural primary care clinics through the Harold P. Freeman Institute.

Public Outreach – The Program provides educational sessions and collaborates with community organizations to help increase awareness about colorectal cancer. Working with contractors Cooney, Watson & Associates and ACMA Social Marketing, the Program develops and disseminates culturally appropriate messages. Public service announcements developed by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention also have been aired on KOAT-Estrella, Entravision-Univision and KOB-TV.

Provider Education & Technical Assistance – The Program assists contracted providers with technical assistance and training.

New Mexico Cancer Council – Staff from the New Mexico Department of Health actively participate on the Colorectal Cancer Workgroup and other Council activities.
